Roof-Top Dog Dangers

In San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, walking down the street is pretty normal, except for the constant sound of barking from up above. If you paused your walking and looked up, you would see dogs upon the roofs of many houses. Families in Mexico put their dogs on the roof of their home, so the dog can become a sort of watch dog, and look out over the street. Many people think families do this because they actually don’t have much room in their homes, which in some cases, is true, but for most these dogs serve as a sort of warning or alarm system.

Why do people need warnings and alarms? Why don’t they use another method instead of their pets? Isn’t this unsafe? What if the dogs fall off the roof? These are all questions that I personally have for people who make their dogs watch over the streets up on the rooftop. I think that this isn’t safe, and these dogs have a great risk for being injured. When some dogs see people or “intruders”, they bark and run around like crazy, which means that they could accidentally slip off the roof or jump off. In conclusion, leaving your dog on the roof to watch over your home is very dangerous and isn’t something that should be done.

USA Qualifies for World Cup 2014!!!

On September 10th, 2013 the US men’s national soccer team played against the Mexican men’s national soccer team for a chance to clinch a spot in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Mexican team dominated the first 25 minutes of the game keeping the ball, but couldn’t score. The Americans began to wake up in the second half scoring early. After the early goal of Eddie Johnson the Mexican team broke down. They would mess up simple passes and their first touches. Then late in the second half Donovan scored which made it 2-0 USA, the traditional score of these two teams in Columbus.

I had high doubts Mexico was going to win this game as the USA had momentum going into this game losing only one World Cup qualifier. When the USA team came out sleeping I thought we’d have to make a comeback, but we got lucky, Mexico was unable to score a goal. Mexico seemed shy and a little intimidated, knowing their history playing USA in that certain stadium. Once the US scored their first goal I knew they won, Mexico breaks down under pressure which was made by the roaring Americans in the stands and now having to come back a goal down. Then when Donovan scored the second goal in the late second half everyone knew the game was over. After the game all the Americans changed their TV’s to the channel which had the Honduras-Panama game which decided whether they went to the World Cup and with that game ending 1-1 the US has a spot in the World Cup.

Mexico City Madness

Imagine this: standing in a shopping plaza, looking around and seeing a bunch of 10-14 year olds in purple screaming as loud as they can. This is what you would have seen if you were in Mexico City’s main plaza earlier this week. Justin Bieber was performing a free concert that thousands of people would be attending. There was an estimated number of about 5,000 police going to be on duty at this event. Their job was to keep Justin safe and all of the bystanders in a calm matter. They knew this would not be the case. Fernanda Gutierrez Aparicio was one of Bieber’s crazy fans that attended his concert. She and her mother had been camping out for a week to get to the front of the performance, only returning home to use the bathroom and check up on the family. She was in the front of the pack waiting to get in and was sickened because “ people were crushing you, not letting you breathe. They were jostling each other and it got to the point that you couldn’t move.” Fernanda said.

This would be amazing. Imagine Justin Bieber having a free concert and being close enough to go?  Imagine him making a video talking about the concert you are at! Imagine seeing Justin Bieber’s face in person. I would die. I would be camping out for a month if my parents would allow. I think that the police of the managers should have made  free but you had to get a ticket.  This would have been a lot less crazy and you wouldn’t have to wait for a week in a tent. They could control the crowd and keep everyone safe. I believe that Justin Bieber should have a concert in every state and you are only allowed to go if you live in that state. This would regulate the crowds and everyone is happy! Justin, please come to Connecticut soon!

Prison Fire Kills Hundreds!

Late Tuesday, February 14th a fire broke out at a prison in Honduras. It was said to be caused by an inmate lighting his/her mattress on fire. Many people died stuck in the prison, but  some prisoners escaped from the prison roof when the chaos of the fire was happening. After the fire was put out officers/gaurds were going through the cells and all they were finding were charred bodies. The fire killed more than 350 prisoners. This is the third major prison fire in Honduras since 2003.

I feel that the fire shouldn’t have even had a chance to start. The prisoners should have no way to start a fire. Even if a fire was started there should be a plan to get as many of the prisoners out as possible. Another problem is that it was the third major fire since 2003. There should be a better system to stop fires from happening. There are many problems about this event , but these are the biggest ones.
