Gucci

When you buy clothes, how much do you spend? Probably not a thousand dollars. And if you do, it’s probably not on just one thing. Well, Gucci has a dress for $1250. And, its just a normal dress, there isn’t anything really special about it. When I saw the dress before I saw how ridiculous the price was, all I saw was a dark blue dress with a metallic gold painted ring in the middle. It was kind of pretty, but it was also kind of plain. Then, after I saw the price tag, I was confused. Why would such an ordinary dress cost so much? But then I saw the word “Gucci” in small letters in the ring. Even more expensive is Jimmy Choo, a well known shoe designer, who designs shoes that cost from about $400- $2000. Yeah, I know what you’re probably thinking. Nobody would spend that much on a single pair of shoes. However, there is a decent amount of people who would.  Don’t get me wrong, I love designer fashion (a lot), but there are limits.

I just don’t get it. There aren’t that many people who would spend that on a single dress. As for the shoes, I saw a pair that looked just like those in another store for about $70. And even though those Jimmy Choo shoes are high quality,I wouldn’t spend an extra thousand just for a designer logo. Think about it: how much are you willing to spend for fashion?

A Small Town Canadian turns to an International Superstar

http://a4.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/profile01/153/c777092c7b8d4c339dee63340a1a206f/p.jpg

Justin Drew Bieber was born on March 1st, 1993 on a Tuesday at 12:56 A.M. Justin was born and raised in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Patricia Mallette, Justin’s mother, had a teen pregnancy and then continued to raise him as a single parent.  Justin became interested in music very early in life, and it was a no brainer that he was extremely talented. He was most interested in singing, drums, and guitar, but later he realized his best talent was singing. Bieber started small, very small. When I say he started small I mean very small, like singing in church choirs and on the side of the road for extra cash. Then he began posting videos on YouTube of him singing until one day when Scooter Braun called Patty. Scooter told Patty about Justin’s amazing potential and flew them into Atlanta, Georgia…and that’s where it all began. Soon enough Bieber signed with Scooter and came out with his first hit album My World. Since then he went on the produce Never Say Never, My World 2.0, Mistletoe, and is releasing a new album this June called Believe. Oh yeah, and did I mention he is only eighteen.

If you’ve ever heard Justin Bieber sing you must already know he is AMAZING! And I mean look at that gorgeous hair of his, gotta love it! And don’t you just want to touch it? Well, if you answered “no” to that  then clearly you are jealous of him. This is a fact… if you’re not in love with Justin Bieber you’re just jealous and want to be him. A wise teacher once told me, “People who don’t know you, are ones that want to know you.” I feel this applies to Bieber too. And if you are jealous of him (and don’t be in denial) I can’t blame you, he is a pretty fantastic eighteen year old boy. The fact that he is the richest teenager in the world makes me pretty jealous too. Also he can date any girl in the world because, well who wouldn’t want to be with Justin Bieber. Don’t even get me started with Selena Gomez. I mean come on,  out of all of the girls he picks her! I don’t get it! I know lots of people criticize Bieber but it can’t be easy being him. Half the world loves him, the other half hates him.   No privacy, everyone wanting something from you, and always practicing or touring…that doesn’t sound easy. Also there are other mean and offensive things being said about him but, don’t even go there! So now I ask you, when we don’t actually know him, how can we hate him? How can we judge him? Why do we still criticize? I say we need to give him a chance to show the world who he really is!

Rogue State Armed With Increasingly Dangerous Ballistic Missiles

North Korea’s interest in a nuclear weapons program reaches as far back in time as the end of World War II. Since then, Pyongyang has mastered the nuclear fuel cycle and has both plutonium and enriched uranium programs capable of producing missile material. North Korea declared that it had roughly 38.5kg of weapons-grade plutonium extracted from spent fuel rods in May 2008 , however other estimates have varied. North Korea has conducted two nuclear weapons tests, in 2006 and 2009. The Six-Party Talks between North Korea, South Korea, Japan, China, Russia, and the United States began in 2003 with the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula. However, these talks have been suspended since April 2009. On trips to China in 2010 and 2011, Kim Jong-Il indicated his desire to resume the Six Party Talks, but South Korea insisted on an apology from North Korea for the 2010 shelling of Yeonpyeong Island and the inclusion of enrichment activities in the discussion before agreeing to resume the negotiations. More recently, initial uncertainties about North Korea’s nuclear program after the death of Kim Jong Il were tempered when Pyongyang agreed to suspend nuclear tests, uranium enrichment, and long-range missile tests in exchange for food aid from the U.S. on 29 February 2012 . While this was a step in the right direction, previous agreements had been made before only to be broken at a later date.

To celebrate the birth of the founding leader, Kim Il Sung, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea launched a new Earth-observing satellite into space atop a long-range rocket, despite open condemnation from countries such as the United States and South Korea; whom believe it was a disguised ballistic missile test. Regardless, the launch failed; obviously an incredible embarrassment for the prideful North. But, the United Nations has now suspended the much needed food aid. This is a prime example of a dictatorial power causing sufferance and oppression among their people. The desperate people of North Korea are deprived of the basic necessities of life; after the government food distribution program failed shortly after the death of Kim Il Sung, they had to fend for themselves. The tons of food aid that was to be given to North Korea in exchange for the ceasing of research related to ballistic missiles would have gone a long way in a country of such mass poverty. The people do not deserve to suffer any more than they do in their ordinary lives, things we as Americans take for granite are only given to the highest of officials; such as running water and fluctuating electricity.

Our first president, George Washington, warned the American people to be neutral and remain without permanent allies. Yet this conflicts with a recently released statement by the White House, “The US remains vigilant in the face of North Korean provocations, and is fully committed to the security our allies in the region,” Carney said in a statement. General Washington’s warnings should be heeded, for this rogue state has the potential to threaten the very security of mainland United States. This should be our most important objective, not preparing for invasion by having around 40,000 US troops of the demilitarized zone; which splits the peninsula in two. This will only complicate the already severed and estranged diplomatic relationship with the North. Let us allow the Koreans to handle the Korean situation.

Gay Marriage

A couple weeks ago on May 9th, history was made. President Obama announced  that he supported same-sex marriage. He makes clear during an interview  that everyone should be treated equal and if a couple (of the same gender) wants to get married, that is their choice and nothing should get in the way of their decision. Even though he claims this is his own personal opinion, he still encouraged states to decide on this issue on their own. Many people believe that this statement will help President Obama be re-elected President of the United States because he may be able to gain votes from gay and lesbian couples. Others believe he will lose votes from those who strictly believe that marriage should be between a man and a women.  I personally believe that the younger generation of our country, agrees more with Obama and supporting gay marriage, rather than the elders. I think this will be an issue for Obama because those who support his viewpoint are not as likely to vote.

In my opinion, I don’t think there is anything wrong with gay or lesbian couples getting married. I agree with President Obama that everyone should be treated equally. If gay and lesbian couples are denied the right to get married  then they aren’t being treated as equals. I think that people can’t help who they fall in love with and it’s not their fault if they happen to fall in love with a person of the same gender. If they are ready for the commitment, they should be able to marry the person they love just like everyone else does. What are your opinions on gay marriage?

Caught Text-Handed!

http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/texting-walking.jpg

Are you one of the many people who often text and walk? Well, I would avoid trips to Fort Lee, New Jersey, where texting while walking has just been banned. Well, to be precise, texting while jaywalking has been banned. (Though the news had first broadcast the idea that merely texting while walking would land you a ticket, Police Chief Thomas Ripoli recently cleared up the confusion. Texting while jaywalking is what will earn you a ticket!) Any pedestrian caught texting and jaywalking will be issued an $85 ticket. Police say that texting while walking is a huge distraction and can be life-threatening. Think they’re exaggerating? Just last year, 74 pedestrian-involved crashes took place and three pedestrians were killed. That’s pretty outrageous for a town of 35,000. Blame it on whoever you’d like, but it’s true that a texter is 60% more likely to veer off course than a non-texter. That’s a big difference now, huh? Though you may consider yourself a talented walker and texter, so did many others who had some pretty unfortunate accidents. One man ran into a bear on the loose and one woman walked right into a fountain!

So now it is time to look at the debate! Who is right in this situation? Well, it’s a matter of opinion. Many believe it is a threat to the public’s safety. “It’s a big distraction,” Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas Ripoli said. “Pedestrians aren’t watching where they’re going and aren’t aware.” But, many “experienced texters” would disagree. Many believe that they text and walk so often that it’s become extremely easy- they don’t even need to look down at their screens! They think they don’t deserve the ticket because they stay aware.  Their argument is that they are receiving a ticket for a distracting habit. But, many habits are distracting such as digging through a purse while walking or listening to an iPod. Will these be banned next? Before you make a judgement though, ponder this question for a moment: How would YOU feel if you received a ticket for texting and walking? Would you think you deserved it?

Black Ops 2: Going Overboard?

http://www.blackops2.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/black-ops-2-official-logo-595x364.jpg

Black Ops, a video game that is part of the Call of Duty franchise, was a huge success. It took place in the cold war and was very realistic, only with a few slight exceptions. It stuck to mainly using your gun to get through the levels, yet occasionally it allowed you to operate various vehicles, like helicopters and a rocket on the back of a car. Much of the Call of Duty franchise has a campaign that is based on you progressing through levels with mainly your gun. Coming out this November 13 is their latest addition, Black Ops 2. Although, it appears as though in this game you will be relying on more robots and machines than your actual gun to advance throughout the campaign. Being displayed in the release trailer for the game that came out on May 1, 2012, were multiple, small, robotic helicopters, giant robotic tanks, x-ray scopes that see through walls, and a plethora of futuristic helicopters and planes. Although all of this makes sense, as the game is supposed to take place in 2025, will it be a little over the top? Even the narrator Sgt. Frank Woods, a fictional video game character, said during the Black Ops 2 official trailer, “Technology got stronger, but we got weaker. We built computers, robots, whole unmanned armies.” With a giant new step being taken to bring Call of Duty to the next level, how will the fans react? Will they admire the drastic leap Black Ops 2 took from the traditional style of play or will they long for it back? There has been much controversy over this topic, as Black Ops 2 is going to change not only the campaign style of play, with it more based on robots, but also a traditional and beloved zombies mode. As for now, we’ll have to wait until the game is released to see if these drastic steps paid off, or sunk the game.

I consider myself to be a strong fan of the Call of Duty franchise, and with this news of the new immense changes Treyarch plans to make on its game, I am disappointed. After watching the trailer for the game, it appears as though the majority of the story mode will be robots fighting against one another. I would rather stick to the exhilarating gun no gun battles. Also, I find the machines they are going to be implementing will be ruining the game. They are taking it in an entirely different direction and I am hesitant to approve of this. Although drastic changes in the game paid off before, this one seems too much for me. Also, where does horse riding fit into all of this? I find it appalling, even insulting, how they are making it futuristic warfare with detailed new robots, and yet in one scene you are riding a horse! In all their games you ride stupendous cars, tanks, helicopters, and underwater vehicles, and now you ride a horse? As much as I fear they butchered the campaign of Call of Duty games, I am now terrified of what they have done to the treasured zombies mode. They already double the amount of players who can play in one game by taking it from a balanced four to a claustrophobic eight. I cherish the zombies mode and enjoy it for what it is, and they’re changing it without a need to. Overall, I am reluctant to see what other drastic determinants, or as unlikely as it is, improvements, have been implemented in this new game, as I’m sure many others are as well.

Didier Drogba: The Savior

Didier Drogba has saved Chelsea on several occasions, netting 158 goals for them. Drogba has helped Chelsea to win the Barclays Premier League three times, the FA Cup four times, the Carling Cup two times, the Community Shield two times, and now the UEFA Champions League. He will definitely go down into the record books for his heroics on May 19th 2012. He scored the equalizing goal in the UEFA Champions League to send the the game into ET then penalty kicks. Then in penalty kicks he scored the final penalty to win the first Champions League Title for Chelsea. After scoring this decisive penalty he announced that he was going to be leaving the club. He has spent eight years at the club becoming one of Chelsea’s all time greats. The amount of goals he has scored is the fourth best for the club and I expect his name to be seen all around Stamford Bridge and all of London. Before Chelsea he played for three other clubs. Most notably was his career at Levallois Sporting Club where they named their stadium after him. He also does a lot of charity work. He donated a large amount of money and had a hospital built in his hometown. Overall, Drogba was an amazing striker for Chelsea and I am sad to see him leave.

I have been a Chelsea fan for as long as I remember. I always loved Didier Drogba. His physical presence has a huge impact on the game, and when faced with the chance to score he normally puts it away. People would be hard pressed to find a game where Drogba didn’t score. His contributions to the game are normally significant. I did have somewhat of an idea that Drogba was going to leave Chelsea, but what a way to finish out his career with the club. Before the Champions League Final Drogba was going to be recognized throughout the whole Chelsea club. But with what he did on Saturday there is no way he will ever be forgotten as long as Chelsea is still around. Honestly, I thought he would go to America to play football, but it seems like he will probably finish off his career in China. It’s unfortunate he will not be playing in America, I would have loved to go see him play. Here is a video of his final kick, play, and goal in a Chelsea Jersey.

Emerged Unscathed

http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/images/news/topstories/2012/05/23/li-bc-120523-cp-rail-locomotive.jpg

A man in Alberta, British Columbia was found underneath the 26th car of a train on May 23rd, 2012. The man was intoxicated and passed out on the train tracks while a train came around the corner. The engineer blew the train whistle, but it didn’t wake the man up. In a hurry, the engineer slammed on the brakes in hopes to stop the train from running over the fellow, however in mere seconds, the front of the train was already over him. After the 25th cart, the train had stopped and after the personnel had awaken the sleeping beauty, “He got up, grabbed his beer, and was on his way.”—Sgt. Dave Dubnyk,.  The man stumbled to a nearby campground where he was taken by the police and put in a detachment holding cell to sober up.

This man, in my opinion, was extremely lucky and if he had not woken up after the train had stopped, then it would have been bye-bye for him. This just shows how dangerous drinking is as he could have died or been severely injured. I hope people will come to their senses soon about drinking alcoholic beverages too much. What I would like to know is: where were the train tracks? How did he get to them? How did the personnel get the man out from under the train? Why did they let the man wander off after that incident? All I can think of is, “I hope that this doesn’t happen again . . .” and I am pretty sure that no one else would want to try their luck with drinking after they have read the article. What if that was you? What would you do after that?

“Glee” Gets some New Directions

http://ewinsidetv.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/glee-project-2_5101.jpg

Last year on June 12, 2011 on the television network, Oxygen, a show called “The Glee Project” was conducted by the “Glee” producers to find someone to be the newest member of New Directions. The auditions narrowed it down to twelve-yes, just twelve- young people for the competition. These twelve contenders would complete a homework assignment each week and after performing as a group, casting director, Robert Ulrich would bring in a special star from the show to determine who performed best. When this contender is decided, they get to be mentored by the “Glee” star for the upcoming music video to be made with the other contenders. After critiquing the video and how the contenders partook over the course of making it, Ulrich along with fellow “Glee” producers decide which three make callbacks. When contenders have callbacks, they must perform an assigned song in front of the producers along with the creator, Ryan Murphy. Two will be saved and advance onward while one contender will be sent home and so on until the final four.

In season one of “The Glee Project” there were two winners: Damian McGinty (who now plays Rory Flanagan) and Samuel Larsen (who now plays Joe Hart). Although, Ryan Murphy was impressed by the runner-ups, Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell, he gave them minor roles (as Harmony and Wade) as well. The next season of “The Glee Project” is set to air on June 2, 2012. Already there are interviews of the new contenders and from this sneak peek it seems like season 2 is going to be a big hit. Damian, Sam, Lindsay, and Alex were all shining stars so I think that the new contenders may need to step up their game a bit to match the previous winners. All in all, the show is a success and I’d suggest on June 2, 2012 you get Oxygen on and watch.

Facebook Creator Suddenly “Tying the Knot?”

http://www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/wp-content/uploads/mark-zuckerburg-priscilla-chan.jpg

We all know the famous genius to the cyber-world, Mark Zuckerberg. Only 28 years old, he is one of the top 30 richest people on earth, and one of the world’s youngest billionaires. All I can say to this remarkable man is congratulations; though, not only to his substantial amount of wealth he earned, but to him and his new wife, Priscilla Chan. Yes, you heard correctly. Young Zuckerberg is ready to share his fortune with a new partner, for hopefully, a lifelong period of time. On Saturday, May 19, 2012, Mark Zuckerberg logged into his facebook as well as Chan, both clicking an exciting button labeled, ‘Married.’ Soon enough, it was official. The title, “Married to Priscilla Chan,” with the photos of Zuckerberg in a tux, and Priscilla in a gorgeous gown were all over websites and news stations, including CNN, for the world to see. Again, congratulations to Zuckerberg for marrying his supposedly, over 9 year girlfriend who he stumbled upon during a semester, while in Harvard.

When I first heard this news of Mark Zuckerberg getting married, I will admit, I was slightly surprised. I thought about facebook, a site I am addicted too, and I know of all the complexity, and another global event of Zuckerberg making facebook a public offering. I just couldn’t seem to grab hold of any time he would have for a wedding. I mean, when you think about it, if you were only in your late 20’s, a billionaire, constantly working on changes with your crew to improve facebook, while working towards a date to make facebook stocks public, all over “tying the knot.” Wow. This really makes me take a step back, and think about the incredible future Zuckerberg has going for him, that he created with his brains. Not to mention, he’s not doing it alone anymore since the 19th. How does Zuckerberg do it all? Isn’t that an overwhelming amount of stress for someone in their 20’s to take on? When you think of the average 20 year old now a days, many are out partying, or just taking things day by day (some seem a little too tempted into trouble). Clearly, Zuckerberg is no everyday 20 year old. What do you think?
