Terraria and Minecraft are by far the best sandbox games I have played. But which one is better? Find out here as we compare the price, game content, graphics, multi-player support, adventure, and creative ability.
Price is a very big factor when comparing these two amazing games. Unfortunately for Minecraft, it is about 30 dollars as of now (15 euros.) On the other hand Terraria is available for the cheap cost of 10 bucks. Both games you can buy gift codes for friends too. There is not much else to say. Apparently, Terraria has won this round.
Next is game content which is probably the most important part of both of the games. Both games have very similar qualities. Minecraft is an easier game though, it has farming, animals, weapons, cave systems, spells, and a wide variety of monsters. However, Terraria has both a lot more monsters and a lot more weapons plus boss battles too. Much like Minecraft, it also has caves and spells too. I say this round results in a tie. Depending on the type of gamer you are, you might prefer one or the other game.
To be honest both of these games have terrible graphics. Terraria is a 2-dimensional scroller (kind of reminds me of a Mario game) while minecraft is a first person game that can even be played in 3-Dimension with different graphic options to run fast or fancy. In Minecraft unfortunately EVERYTHING is a cube. I guess Minecraft wins this round, although I wish I could say they both lost this round.
Both games have fairly good multi-player support. On one side Minecraft servers can hold more users and on the other Terraria servers are easier to set up. Typically Minecraft servers are slower but they usually do not need the server administrator’s permission to join the server. In Terraria, you need to be invited to a server which usually takes a long time. This round has been tied.
If you like the thrill of adventure games, Terraria is the one for you. I’m not saying Minecraft has no adventure, it is just that Terraria has a more exciting twist to it. Elaborate dungeons and abandoned castles are some of the elements that make it so interesting. Unlike Minecraft, there are boss battles which challenge the player a lot more. However Minecraft did become more exciting after the 1.8 adventure update, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Terraria. Terraria wins this round.
Building and being creative is what Minecraft is all about. The possibilities are endless, the world never ends. In Terraria, you have a limited space to build for the world stops at a certain point. Minecraft structures become these amazingly detailed, intricate structures. Once again since Terraria is 2- Dimensional it does not show creations in good detail. Minecraft is a mod supporting game. So in other words, there are millions of mods and server plug-ins to make your creations even MORE pleasing. Minecraft is the winner of the creativity round.
In my opinion these are both very great sandbox games. What one lacks the other one has. They have great multi-player support and great game play. Depending on your interests you might like one or the other game better. Personally, I like Minecraft better but what is your opinion? Have a look at their websites below.
