Will They Jingle All The Way To A Higher Raise?

“Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, it’s no fun, to survive, on low low low low pay.” During this holiday season, many fast-food workers are singing a jingle bells cheer while going on strike- demanding for a raise in pay. Average wage for fast-food employees is $9 an hour and minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Over 100 employees in New York and Detroit gathered outside McDonald’s restaurants chanting for a raise. Walkouts scheduled in over 100 cities and gatherings of public support groups all are showing how much these workers can’t stand their payments. Both Pope Francis and President Obama have shown sympathy towards these workers but no actions have been in place.

Clearly, these employees can’t survive on $9 an hour. Most workers have families and maybe children to care for and pay for and this amount of money will not cut it. So many citizens get fast food a day- there should be plenty of money for the people who make all the “comfort” food we enjoy daily. Not a lot of specialized jobs are available now, and when your only way to make money is by working with fast-food, you should be paid enough to live without poverty. Another reason why minimum wage should be raised, is that it would give more money to employees so they can spend money helping in their community which helps the economy. Overall, fast-food workers payment needs to be raised.

“How Much More Can the NFL take with theses Replacement Referees”

How much longer can the NFL take from these replacement refs which have not done anything at all. They have made so many bad calls like the Packers vs. the Seahawks when they made one of the worst calls ever. The call was when the seahawk’s QB Russell Wilson threw the ball into the end zone. So 3 Packers and one Seahawk went up to catch the ball and the Packers cornerback M. D. Jennings caught the ball and then the wide receiver Golden Tate of the Seahawks, goes up to fight for the ball. And one ref calls it a touchdown and while the other ref calls it a touchback. So that is one reason why the teams and the fans cannot take these replacement refs. Other reasons are a mix of bad calls across the NFL.

These Refs should not be reffing the professional football games because they are inexperienced and are not used to these games. Also this is not just the replacement refs it is also the regular refs because they were complaining about their pay and I think that they really don’t need to complain because they make so much money. Another thing is that these replacements are from the college level and they do not have some of the same rules. So they might be used to reffing with those rules. And the regular refs are used to making very hard calls but these other refs are not use to making  a very big call. So that is why the NFL could not be able to take theses refs any more.

Chicago Strikes Back

The city of Chicago was hit with a sudden public school strike that left over 300,000 students without a teacher. This Monday a sudden spotlight on rising tensions nationally over teachers conditions was forcefully brought up due to a strike in Chicago. This put the mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, in a tight situation on what to do.  Thousands of teachers dressed in red t-shirts swarmed through downtown and marching outside of schools across the city to put their point across about teachers being judged by their teaching.  This strike was Chicago’s first strike in 25 years. When will it end?

I believe that, although teachers have a duty to teach their students, they have the right to be on strike. My stepdad is a teacher and is in the same situation with teachers pay depending on their teaching style though evaluation. Teachers shouldn’t be judged by how they teach or how their student’s perform. Tieing into this would be equal pay not only due to race and sex but also how you work. It doesn’t add up. My only question is where’s the next strike going to hit?
