Are People Going Crazy With Their Christmas Shopping?

The holidays are right around the corner, and people every where have spent a lot of money on their favorite days of the year to shop, Black Friday and Cyber Monday because of the great deals in every store. Many people plan where they are going to go and what they are going to get for their families for the Christmas holiday. People everywhere were ready to race into their stores and be the first or second person to get the item they wanted for someone and get in line. It is basically like a race; in a race you want to be in first or second maybe third place, but in Black Friday shopping you want to be the first, second, or third person to get something you want.

Personally, I think it is too crazy to go out on Black Friday, people are running around the mall getting whatever they need for the Christmas holiday. They are trying to get the best things for the best deals and trying to spend the least amount of money possible. But on Cyber Monday even if you have the same deals it is not as crazy then it is on Black Friday. The thing that I have a problem with on Black Friday is if a company orders lets say fifteen TV’s that many people want for a really good deal that means only fifteen people have the chance to get a TV; what if there are many people waiting at the door until they open them.

Black “Eyed” Friday

Many people have come to know the Friday after Thanksgiving as one of the biggest retail shopping days of the year. “For many, Black Friday is a part of their annual tradition. Eat until nauseated on Thanksgiving, pass out in a food coma, and then wake up early and fight crowds for $10 off a video game or $100 off of a television” (Beforeitsnews 1). There is one thing most people are unaware of when it comes to Black Friday shopping, and that is the dangers that come with it. A few years ago, a Wal-Mart stampede caused a miscarriage and led to one employee being killed. Also, just last year a woman pepper sprayed others in a battle for a video game. People are getting more violent as they fight over toys, electronics, and clothing just for what they think is a good discount.

Last year was the first (and last) time I will ever go Black Friday shopping. I went to Target with my mom at around 10:00 in the morning thinking that many of the early morning shoppers had already left. We were surprised to find it was exactly the opposite. Once we parked and hiked through the parking lot, we walked in to find people running and yelling, getting knocked over, jumping for things, and slamming into people. It was completely insane! As soon as we saw what was going on we wanted to leave, but it took  20 minutes just to get to the exit. I think that it is just better to stay at home on Black Friday and not go shopping. No matter how good the deals may be, it is not worth it!

Horrible Kenyan Mall Shooting!

People have died in the nations’ capital of Nairobi, Kenya after a major mall shooting on Saturday September 21, 2013.  The group known as Al-Shabaab took over Westgate Mall and randomly killed people.  Unfortunately, Kenyan men, women, and children have been innocently shot and killed in this awful take over of the mall.  People are still missing under the collapsed building and 67 people have been confirmed dead. A widely popular radio show host, Ruhila Adatia-Sood and her unborn child were killed in this shooting. Many viewers of the radio show, Radio Africa, are grieving for her and her family. The wait for the other victims is still so unbearable for the community. To read more on this event, please click on this link.

This situation at the Westgate Mall was horrible and dreadful.  It was a really bad moment in time. This group, Al-Shabaab is very evil and cruel. I feel really bad for all the families and friends of the people who died in this tragic shooting. The children whose parents died are never going to have the same life. It would be super difficult for me to go on in life with one parent.  Life for the people of Nairobi, Kenya now will be very difficult.

“Crisis in Kenya”

First in Syria, now in Kenya, there have been many tragedies recently. On September 22 in Kenya, there was a terrorist attack in the Westgate mall in Nairobi, Kenya. The attack went on for four days with continuous shooting and violence. There were at least 61 casualties and 71 people still missing from the rubble of the collapsing building. Also, the verified leader of the terrorist attack is named Al-Shabab, who told everybody that there were 137 people dead, which couldn’t be verified so far. There were about 175 wounded people, and currently 62 people are in the hospital.

Some of my thoughts on the subject is that I think the attacks and tragedies will keep happening  throughout the world. Personally, all of this gets me a little bit frightened. Almost everyday I think about all of the attacks on the world, 9/11, d-day, etc. The world will never know when the next attack will happen, so we have to be prepared for the worst. Just thinking about it gets me worried about my family and friends, and I can’t imagine what all of the relatives and friends of the people that died or wounded are thinking about. I hope I never have to experience the excruciating pain inside that a lot of people are feeling right now.

The Outlets At Cheshire

The Outlets at Cheshire

Coming in the early summer of 2015 The Outlets at Cheshire will be opening. Starting in early 2014 construction will begin to make this 500,000 square foot dream come to life. It will be located by routes 84, 91, and 691. The outlets features will make it a pedestrian friendly layout to all the visitors who come. It will provide brand names that are not available in the central part of Connecticut. Also, it will include quality fine dining.

I think the idea of making an outlet at Cheshire is a cool idea. I like to go out shopping, but the thing is I can’t do it that often because all the outlets or malls are a far drive from Cheshire. Now, with the outlets coming it makes it more convenient for anyone to go shopping because it is very close.  Also,  there will be fine dining choices at the outlets. If my family and I, feel hungry and want to go out to get some food we will be able to go their. I know Cheshire has a lot of restaurants that have good food, but a lot of it is fast food. Now, we will be able to have a wider variety of food to eat, if we want to go out. I definitely think I’m going to be going to these outlets when they open. Do you think you will go to the Outlet at Cheshire?

My Shopping Addiction Helps Needy Children? SAY WHAT?!?!

Blake Mycoskie traveled to Argentina in 2006, and befriended young children, but he felt horrible when he noticed that most of them walked around with no shoes. These kids would have deep, painful cuts on their feet, that led to dangerous infection. Besides medical hazards, tons of these children  are denied schooling because shoes are mandatory for their school uniform. Blake realized that these children may never learn how to read, just because because their families couldn’t afford a pair of shoes. This guy wanted desperately to help, so he created Toms Shoes  which is a radical shoe company. Whenever a pair of Toms is bought from a customer, a new pair of shoes is delivered to a kid in need.

My hot pink Toms came in the mail yesterday and I’m in love with a pair of shoes. If I close my eyes, it feels like I’m walking in a bowl of cushy marshmallows. Not only do my feet feel like heaven, but now I feel amazing because my random purchase sent shoes to a kid in Africa (or another poor place) who really needed them! Toms are cute, comfy, and affordable at $54, but one thing annoys me. Today when I was walking to my bus stop,  I slipped on ice, and basically fractured my butt because these shoes are so dang slippery! They have 0% traction but it’s still worth the sacrifice, just don’t wear them when you’re surrounded in black ice. This doesn’t make these shoes any less cute though, so put your shopping addiction to good use! Buy a pair of Toms for yourself, and give a kid a better future.
