Big Blue Choking Crew

This season has been a rough one for Giants fans across the country, myself included. The New York Giants just can’t seem to string together a few wins. Before winning last night against the Miami Dolphins, the Giants had dropped 3 straight games. In fact yesterday was the first time the Giants hadn’t choked in 3 games, something that has been all too common this season. In the 3 games leading up to the Dolphins game, the Giants have led going into the 4th quarter in 2 of the 3 games. The Giants were leading 23-17 going against the Patriots and 20-10 against the Jets going into the 4th quarter, yet they still managed to lose both games. In the Redskins game, the Giants managed to make a mini comeback in the 4th quarter just to fall short. The Giants just haven’t been able to finish games, whether it be against the Cowboys, Saints, Patriots, Jets, Redskins, and Falcons. These are six games in which the Giants could and should have one. In fact if it weren’t for this constant inability to finish games, the Giants would be 11-1. A great example of choking is when they lost to the Cowboys in week 1, big blue allowed the Cowboys to score 2 touchdowns in the last quarter. One of which came in the last minute and a half, a situation where the Cowboys didn’t even have any timeouts. The Giants chances at the playoffs are becoming thinner week by week, and this team can only be remembered as what could have been.

This season has been as painstaking as it can get for a Giants fan. I’ve felt the pain of watching this promising Giants team come up short every week. This team really could have been good. As I stated in the paragraph above, if the Giants weren’t so prone to choking then they could potentially be 11-1 instead of 6-7. Every week I watch the Giants blow a lead in the 4th quarter. In a very bad NFC East, the Giants should be leading by a landslide,  yet somehow their on the brink of missing out on the playoffs. Each week the Giants manage to mess up in the 4th quarter and inch farther and farther away from the playoffs. It is frustrating to just see a team that should be locked in for the playoffs, slowly fade out of the playoff picture. The Giants chances at the playoffs are looking bleak, breaking the hearts of every Giants fan in the country. As of the current NFC East standings, the Giants are technically in a 3 way tie for first with the Eagles and Redskins. But when you look at the 3 teams final 3 games, you realize that the Giants probably won’t make it in. The Eagles have a decent schedule, playing the Cardinals, Redskins, and Giants. The Redskins have an easy schedule, playing the Bills, Eagles, and then Cowboys. And then your stuck with the Giants who have to play the Panthers, Vikings, and Eagles in their last 3 games. Unless the Giants can pull off a miracle and win all three of these games, their playoff chances may as well be gone. As a Giants fan myself, I’ve withered through the pain of this mediocre team and now realize that they’re not going to make the playoffs. It’s time to give up on this Big Blue Choking Crew and throw in the towel. We can only hope for next season.

New York Giants Super Bowl Champions: The Party isn’t Over

Big Blue came away with another underdog Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots thus shocking themselves, shocking the Pats, and shocking the world. Going back to the regular season the NY Giants were not looking too good. Prior to the playoffs they maintained a steady, but most certainly not strong record of 9-7.

Sunday January 15 – The Giants begin the playoffs with a game scheduled against the No. 1 seed: The Green Bay Packers. Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning  outplays Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rogers for a Big Blue win of 37-20.
Sunday January 22 – The playoff game that decides who will be Super Bowl XLVI contenders. New York goes up against No. 4 seed: San Fransisco 49ers, and come away with a nail biting win over San Fransisco: 20-17.
Sunday February 5 – Super Bowl XLVI- New York Giants vs New England Patriots. From the first play of the game it was evident that the New York Giants were going to put up a strong fight. They put up more than a strong fight. Big Blue beat the favored Patriots for their fourth Super Bowl victory in history. The New York Giants are Super Bowl Champions!

The party is not over for the Super Bowl XLVI Champions. On Tues Feb. 7, in the streets of Manhattan down The Canyon of Heroes the Giants were welcomed by over one million fans during the Super Bowl parade including myself. It was exciting from the moment I left Connecticut. Starting with the train ride to NYC, with all of the other Giant fans. Everyone was dressed in their Giant garb headed for the same destination. The excitement I felt when we hit the streets of New York was like nothing I’ve felt before. My family and I followed the energetic  parade from Battery Park to where it wrapped up at City Hall. While making the walk along with the immense crowd, my adrenaline was through the roof.

Despite the fact that the Giants did not start off the season too well, I think the reason they were able to win the Super Bowl was because they fought back over and over no matter how favored the other team was; The New York Giants are known as the underdog Super Bowl champions this year-which is something I can never stop saying.  If all this isn’t enough exhilaration to pump up these champs, then what is? Between The Giants’ 2012 Lombardi trophy, Eli’s MVP award, and Victor Cruz ‘s salsa dance…that’s enough momentum to carry this years victory on forever.

A Great Day for New York

The football season has finally started and the games are as exciting as ever! Now my favorite team, the New York Giants, has been sub-par the past couple of years. When I heard that Vick was going to play this week against the Giants, my heart sank. But, with the help of the amazing Giants defensive line, Vick ended up breaking his hand mid game. This was a huge turning point in the game, although the Giants were up before Vick’s incident, the Eagle offense got nowhere after it. It was a glorious day for New York, but it wasn’t over, the Jets also pulled away with a W.

In all of this excitement the New England Patriots were making a fool of the Buffalo Bills throughout the 1st quarter. But as the game progressed, the Bills mounted a comeback, and a big one. After 4 interceptions (the amount he threw all of last season) from the “glorious” Tom Brady, two of which where pick six’s, the Bills tied it up at 24-24 in the dwindling minutes of the 4th quarter. After yet another Pats turnover the Bills got the ball at the goal line with 1:57 left to play. After two knees from the Bills to run down the clock, the Patriots got a personal foul, which gave Buffalo a first down, or more time to waste. As the clock was stopped at 00:3 the Bills went into field goal formation, the 23 yard kick was child’s play for the Veteran kicker, and it sailed trough the uprights at 00:0 to end the game.

Giant Shock

The New York Giant are one of the more liked teams in the NFL. They are also one of the richer teams. They have the money to get great players. For that reason they are expected to do good. Well this year was supposed to be the exception. The Giants have been bombarded with injuries and most of the injured players will be out for the season.

With having to play so many backups there comes a lack of experience. That showed in a week one loss to the Redskins. The next week the giants played the Rams. The Giants regrouped in that game with a 18 to 16 win but they lost two of their starting receivers, Hixon, and Manningham.

This week the Giants had to play the Eagles who have one of the best defenses in the NFL.   With out their two receivers the Giants did not seem to stand a chance.
But 24 year old victor Cruz stepped up, recording two touch downs. The Giants won 29 to 16.

The Giants should not be underestimated. Plus they have a few of there starters coming back very soon. Next week the Giants play the Cardinals. If they win they can prove that the last two weeks have not been just lucky and even with so many injuries they are still one of the top teams in the NFL.  They are currently tied for first place and can pull ahead farther next week with a win. Like I said before the Giants were not supposed to be good but they are doing great. To some people this is a giant shock. The future may be looking bright for the Giants this season.
