Basketball Recruit Asks Friend With Autism to Prom

In Louisville, Kentucky a high schooler named Trey Moses asked  Ellie Meredith, a girl who is dealing with autism, if she would go to prom with him. Rather than bringing his girlfriend, he decided to ask Ellie by bringing flowers inside their school’s gym and holding a sign that said “Let’s party like it’s 1989,” which is a Taylor Swift reference, one off Ellie’s favorite artists. When he was being interviewed, he explained that she knew him so well and despite what people may think, they are totally alike. Although Ellie was taken by surprise when Trey suggested that they go to prom together, she said that she knew that it would be something in Trey’s nature to do.

To me, this is really cute and shows a positive part of society. Everyone mainly focuses on race, gender, and religion when it comes to unfair equality but this can make humans finally realize that mental disabilities are another aspect. My hope is for viewers of this promposal to learn a lesson and start to act the same around everyone. Personally, this should already be happening but in reality it is not. Maybe one day, Trey’s actions can be viewed as something that isn’t a big deal because autism isn’t considered a “flaw.” Nonetheless, this story truly brings a sense of comfort because it shows that people aren’t always so self conscious on how others might view them. In conclusion, I say, be friends with whoever you want!

How do you Treat Autism?

It was reported on May 15, 2015 in Brookfield, Wisconsin that a 13 year old female with autism was left alone locked in her basement by her guardians. In addition, another report goes into greater depth telling that the Waukesha County Department had received concerns from the girl’s teacher, peers, and neighbors about her life at home, but the department didn’t listen. Later resulting in this young girl being treated like an animal; living in a cold dark basement wearing a diaper and not being allowed to go near any furniture. Additionally, the child spent her time there from 6 pm to 6 am while being called stink by her mother. Even though the County Department had to go to the house several times due to claims of child abuse and neglect, the police could not charge the parents. This is just one case of children with autism being mistreated.

In my honest opinion, people with autism should not be treated with less importance or respect. Nobody really knows that I have a brother who has autism and he is picked on for having it. Why must people be so cruel and careless? This is because they simply have no life. There is no other answer, these people clearly have no heart to feel for these people or a brain to even imagine the struggles and hardships people have because of their disabilities. This might be just me, but I can tell when someone is pretending to be friends with a person with autism, and that must be the worst to do to somebody. Like seriously, who does that? Surprisingly a lot of people actually do this horrible act, and maybe you are one of them. But I will tell you, being friends, and I mean actual friends with someone with a disability is probably the most greatest thing you’ll ever do. This will bring a smile to their face and maybe even yours. For instance, my brother gained a friend about four years ago and now they enjoy every moment together doing fun and sometimes stupid stuff.

Bakery Story: The Online Baking Revolution

Bakery story is an online game available on the app store. It’s free, and creates a world where easy, electronic baking is possible. In this game you have a job to run a bakery. You must constantly leave food on the counters, or you’re at risk of customers leaving with broken hearts. The food on this app takes a variety of time to cook, ranging from five minutes, to two bakery story days (forty-four hours) There are dozens of ovens to choose from, each creating specific foods, related to the oven name. For example, the shaved ice machine creates red, blue, and rainbow shaved ice, and the deep fryer adds donuts, and other fried food onto your counters. In this game you can continually expand your bakery, leaving room for more chairs, tables, and other decorations. You are also able to decorate the bakery in a variety of themes, or create your very own style, mixing and matching chairs and tables. All of these luxuries may be purchased with the coins and gems that your bakery earns for feeding happy customers. These coins and gems can also be purchased using real world money within an in-store purchase, but your bakery can survive without spending real money. Finally, bakery story allows people to make friends with other bakery’s. The benefits of having friends is that your friends may give your bakery six tips a day, providing the Bakery Story owner with extra coins to buy items. Also, your friends give you a daily gift. This gift may help when trying to build an oven that you don’t have all the parts for. Overall, Bakery Story is a game that leaves millions happy as they are provided with the entertainment of online fun.

I am a fellow bakery story lover. I have reached level 70/99 and have over three million coins. I love how I am able to redesign my bakery, and put my creative mind into play, using the app. I’ve made beach, autumn, movie, Paris, and winter themed. My friends are always leaving compliments on my wall about my fabulous bakery. I have over 100 neighbors, who give me fully tipped tables each day. Normally, I check my bakery twice a day. I bake eight-hour foods in the morning, that will be finished in the afternoon. Then, I bake twelve-hour foods to cook through the night. My favorite part of Bakery Story is the goals. Every week this app comes out with new goals for the bakers to complete. After you have finished a goal you earn a prize of either coins, or a decoration. I know many people who have bakeries, and love it just as much as I do. Amelia Pellegrino, a level 63 baker says, “Bakery story is one of my favorite apps, it’s so simple and easy to use.” Everyone loves this game! Bakery story is mostly of interest to the teenage group, mostly girls, but many boys as well. It entertains the daily life of many of todays people in this electronically filled World. In conclusion Bakery Story is an amazing app and I suggest that everyone gets it, because I know that they will enjoy it just as much as I do.

A Fun Way to Stay Healthy

At Dodd, there is a variety of sports you can try out for, and one of those is cross country. I have been a member of the Dodd Cross Country team both of the years I have been at Dodd. The cross country team practices every day, and normally runs 3-4 miles in practice. Practice starts right after school at 3:00, and runs until 4:30. A cross country meet is 2 miles, and are usually held once or twice a week. Home meets are held at Cheshire Park and last until about 4:45. The cross country season runs through September, October, and part of November.

I think that joining Dodd Cross Country is a great idea. By joining, you get a chance to stay in shape and still have fun. I met many new friends through cross country, and running with them makes the workout fun. You can stay healthy and active and still be with your friends. During cross country season, my body is in good shape and I feel good. Running is a great way to stay active and have fun at the same time.  Overall, cross country has helped me stay fit and make new friends, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to run.

Is Social Media Bad for Society?

By now, social media has taken over our lives. It is used for many reasons and many different ways. There are many social media sites that are able to interact with everyone in the whole entire world. Some social media sites that people use are Facebook, Twitter, etc. These sites make communication with others much easier. For example, when trying to contact with a relative living a state away, you can just go on Facebook and message them. You may think that social media is the best thing that has happened in our generation, but it also has its negative effects. But the main question is, “Is Social Media good or bad  for society?”

In this topic, I think that social media can be good and bad to the society. Social media has brought us closer to the other parts of the world, which can be a good thing. With the many sites, we can communicate with anyone at anytime which is good for business people and other citizens that need to talk to one another.  If you think about it, isn’t it weird knowing that you can talk to someone that lives in Asia or Mexico? Social media sites are being used for spreading the word on any event, product, business, or any nationwide things happening.

You may think Social media is good for society by now, but there are also its negative consequences. With the ability of communicating over the internet, it may cause the feeling of not socializing, not going out, and limit the time we actually talk to someone face to face. I would agree with this, because when I’m out with friends they tend to be more on their phones than actually talking with me. In addition, social media sites can lead to a serious topic thats happening more now, which is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is when people online insult, or bully people on the sites in any way that hurts their feelings or makes them uncomfortable. Studies show that social media sites promotes no self esteem, no compassion, and or empathy. For example, on the social media site Instagram, several people post “Selfies” which means posting a picture of themselves. This is resulted, because of people wanting input of themselves. This can lead to harmful insults or having other people question their own beauty. But, it is still very important to never judge a book by its cover. In conclusion, the social media effects can be good or bad to society, it depends on how you keep your life relying lessor more on social media. There are many good things about it, but there are also many bad things to it also.

Go The Distance

There are many reasons why running is one of the best sports to do. One thing is that you get a lot of exercise because it is a high intensity form of exercise. You also can do it quite inexpensively. All you really need are a good pair of running shoes and some comfortable clothes. Plus, everyone knows how to run so you don’t need to learn new skills. That also makes it easier for anyone to do this sport. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old or skinny or not because you can still run.  When you run in a race you meet a lot of really nice people. Also, when you run you can run in a group or on your own. You can also run as slow or as fast as you want to.

I personally love running cross country and track. Everyone on the team is very nice and friendly. You can make a lot of really close friends. Cross country is also a sport that anyone can do. As long as you are willing to run and put in effort then you will make it onto the team. Meets for cross country and track are really fun and exciting to be part of. I think that everyone shows a lot of sportsmanship. Other teams will cheer each other on and congratulate one another. There are many more reasons why running is a great sport, these are just a few of them.

Being Kind to People

Everyday, people meet new people and become good friends. They could meet them in school, in the library, or even in the supermarket. However, did you ever wonder what that person will be like when they grow up? Will they be a movie star, or the President of the United States, or maybe even some kind of inventor? Nobody really knows. Thats why we should be nice to everyone; because its a nice thing to do, and if you ever might need help from them, they will help you.

In the past years, America has gotten so much ruder. From not saying thank you to your parents when they got you your new guitar, or even using your sleeve to wipe your face after eating. We can change this though. A survey on this website says that 75% of people think Americans have gotten ruder.  We can fix this though. If everyone starts acting nice to everyone else and says please and thank you, uses a napkin to wipe their mouth after eating, and acts nice to everyone, maybe we won’t be as rude. If you take one thing from this blog, I hope its that you should be nice to everyone, because they will be nice to you in return.

Facebook: Friend or Foe?

We all know what Facebook is and how it was started. Most people in the U.S.A have one. 5% of the world’s total population has a account and this is a number that is rapidly growing.  Facebook is a way to connect with friends and family, and to make sure that your not out of the loop. It’s intentions are good, but have people turned it into something it’s not?

The age to have an account on Facebook is 13. How many people in our generation have gotten it before 13? The better question is “How many people got it after 13?” Facebook is a scary place for someone under 13. And sometimes parents don’t care when their kid gets a Facebook. On my personal Facebook, I used to be friends with a 2nd grader! This popular website may not seem as good as you think after this next topic. Their have been accounts of people being stalked on Facebook because of the personal information you put on your profile. A person can see where you live, when your birthday is, and obviously your name! And sometimes this is enough for a experienced hacker to hack your email. This happened to my mom once. They broke into her email and sent a letter saying the we were stuck in England and we needed money to get home. This has happened to over 2 million others too!

So is Facebook.com really worth it? Are you willing to take the risks that are attached to being a member. I personally am not and these reasons are why I deactivated my Facebook. You may see no problem with the website and that is totally fine. But next time you are checking out whats going on just think about what could happen.
