After gaining a 31-0 lead on the Seahawks in the divisional round and blowing out the Cardinal’s high octane offense 49-15, no one was giving the Broncos a chance in last week’s Super Bowl. The Panthers were hot, finishing 18-1 in the regular and postseason behind league MVP Cam Newton who not only scored with his arm, but his legs as well, gaining 50 total touchdowns despite being held back by the loss of his number 1 WR from the year before, Kelvin Benjamin. The defense was a formidable unit as well, lead by Josh Norman, who week after week shut down the best receivers the NFL had to offer, and Luke Kuechly, who had 118 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and had scored a touchdown the week prior to the Super Bowl against the Cardinals. The Panthers final opponent of the year, the Broncos, were written off as to be the final win the Panthers would get before they could claim the Lombardi. The Broncos starting QB in Peyton Manning had looked bad all season, throwing the 2nd most interceptions in the league this season, despite missing half of it, and throwing an abysmal 9 touchdowns. Despite everything the Panthers had going for them, the Broncos shocked the sporting world, leaving Levi’s Stadium with the Lombardi Trophy, and here’s the 3 reasons why.

The first reason the Broncos upset the 5.5 point favorites in the Panthers was that they limited Peyton Manning’s mistakes. After being put back into the lineup in week 17 versus the Chargers, Gary Kubiak realized that Manning couldn’t make the throws that he used to be able to, so he changed his offense. The Broncos switched to a run oriented offense, focusing on pounding opponents with Ronnie Hillman and CJ Anderson, and when Peyton had to make throws, they were short and quick, as to minimize the damage he could create. While Peyton still threw a pick on Sunday, it was made up for by the Broncos defense.

The second reason the Broncos were able to topple the Panthers on Sunday was that their running game came through for them. Facing the league’s 2nd best run defense didn’t phase the Broncos offense, as they rushed the ball 28 times notching 90 yards and 1 CJ Anderson touchdown that sealed the Broncos’ victory late in the fourth quarter.

The third and the most important reason the Broncos beat the Panthers was their amazing defensive performance. 2 weeks after harassing Tom Brady’s Patriots, the Denver pass rush made swiss cheese out of the Carolina offensive line, getting a Super Bowl record 7 sacks, 2.5 of which coming from Super Bowl MVP Von Miller. The Denver D also forced 3 turnovers, 1 returned for a TD and another giving the Broncos the ball near the goaline which CJ Anderson would turn into a touchdown a few plays later. Thanks to Peyton limiting mistakes, the running game coming through, and Denver’s magnificent play on defense, the Broncos were able to upset the Panthers 24-10 to win Super Bowl 50.

All Aboard the Tebow Train!

How did the Denver Broncos win their first playoff game since 2005 last year. The answer: First round 2010 NFL draft pick Tim Tebow. Tebow has been dominating the NFL with his skill and prowess. Tim Tebow became Denver’s starting quarterback in the sixth game of the 2011 season. With a 1-4 record upon his promotion, Tebow led the Broncos all the way to an AFC West title and a playoff game, their first since 2005. During the offseason he was traded to the New York Jets. It is still unknown what his permanent position will be.

My question is: Why is there so much negativity towards Tebow? Is it the fact that he is the only sophomore to win a Heisman trophy? Is it because he openly shares his Evangelical Christian faith? This remains a mystery. After all, he has thrown many touchdown passes and he led his team to the playoffs. That is his job as QB. Is it not? In my opinion, Tim Tebow is one of the best players in the league. Why? Well, he is like a jack-of-all-trades. Early in the season we saw him placed at wide-receiver. When he became a starter, he dumped short passes to get first downs. Tebow has showed his great running ability by rushing as a QB. We have also seen him blocking for a running back after making a handoff! He can catch, throw, run and block. He is also one of the most humble players on the field. What more could you ask for?

Peyton Leaves Indianapolis?

On March 9, 2012 Peyton Manning was signed by the Denver Broncos.  He played in Indianapolis for every year of his career (14 years), but Manning was cut from the team due to his neck injury last year.  Peyton could not play last year and his his team finished with a record of 1-15 (1 win, 15 losses).   Many people worry he won’t be able to play this year, and sources say Manning has not been throwing as hard as he used to, but he has been told he will be able to fully recover by three different doctors.  Doctors say he will be able to play if he continues to strengthen his back.  I am certain he will work very hard to strengthen his back because he is a great football player, and I bet he wants to get back in the game.  Manning had 54,828 passing yards and 399 touchdowns through his career as a Colt, and hopes to continue to improve his stats while a Bronco.

The Denver Broncos are in the rebuilding process.  They signed Manning because they believe he will be the “winning card.”  Denver has struggled with recent quarterbacks and they believe Manning is the perfect fit for the team.  Denver prefers a quarterback who stay in the pocket and have a strong arm.  Tim Tebow (Denver Broncos quarterback last year) was the opposite of what they wanted, he would scramble out of the pocket and he did not have a great arm.  The Owners of the Denver Broncos are also trying to sign Jeff Saturday (Center) and Jacob Tamme (Tight End).  Manning has chemistry with both these players as they all played in Indianapolis together.  Saturday knows where Manning likes his snaps and Tamme knows what Manning likes to throw in 3rd and 10 situations.  I feel these three players can really help the Denver Broncos turn their team into a championship-caliber team, especially Peyton Manning.

Tebow Time?

During the last football season, a lot of talk happened about teams and which team would be the surprise story of the year.  And there was one team that took the league by storm.  The Denver Broncos had been a good to average team in the league for several years after John Elway retired.  In 2010, they drafted a young quarterback from the University of Florida, Tim Tebow in the first round.  Many people criticized Tim throughout his career about how he couldn’t make it into the NFL.  After not seeing the field too much his rookie season, people really started to get on him.  After the Broncos went 1-4 in the first 5 weeks of the 2011-2012 season, head coach John Fox decided to try out the young quarterback in their next game against the Miami Dolphins.  Tim Tebow struggled in the first 3 and a half quarters, but in the last 3 minutes of the game, and the Broncos down 15-0,Tim Tebow led the Broncos to a Cinderella story victory in overtime.  After the 18-15 win over Miami, John Fox decided to start Tebow the next game.  Many critics said that game was a fraud.  Wrong.  The next 6 of 7 weeks the Broncos found themselves down in the 4th quarter with all odds against them, yet Tebow still found a way to win earning himself a starting record of 7-1.  This time period in the 4th quarter has become known as Tebow Time.  So the question that everyone is asking has came up: Will Tebow become the permanent starter for the Broncos and is he capable of taking the Broncos to the Superbowl?

I personally am not a Broncos fan but whenever the Broncos game was on I would always root for them because of Tebow.  Tim Tebow is a perfect role model for young football players and even other NFL players.  He is just someone that people naturally revolve around and like.  People believe in him after his performances on the field and he has gained many fans from around the country.  I think that Tebow should be the starter for the Broncos.  If you just look at what he has done for that team, how could you not start him?  He has gone 7-1 his first 8 starts as an NFL player, the best record in the history of the NFL, and is 3-0 in overtime.  By those numbers, he is excellent under pressure, and never gives up.  He may not be as good as Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, but he is only in his 2nd year of the NFL and as he gains experience in the league through the years, he can do some great things for the Broncos organization and lead them to earning several Superbowl rings.

Tim Tebow: True Player or Lucky Games?

Over this NFL season so far this year the Denver Broncos quarter back Tim Tebow has shown to be the player he was back in his collage years on the Florida Gators. This year according to espn.go.com Tim Tebow has thrown for 1’054 yards and ran for 468 yards. Now some might say he is the real deal for a first year starter but others don’t think it will last. According to Broncos head coach John Fox, “he is real and there is no doubt in my mind that he will go places in the football world .“  But other Bronco fans say he will just hold us back when he loses the ability to run the ball.

My thoughts on the whole thing is I believe Tebow is a great player and will be the starting QB for years to come . But I also believe that when he comes to lose his running ability it will be a different story. Also when teams figure out his weakness’s like the way he throws the ball and how low the ball is to the ground teams will stop him. So in conclusion I say that for the next few years Tebow will be a solid player but he will start to become worse and worse as he gets older. That is what I have to say.
