Fighting to Keep Hockey Fights

Have you ever thought about what hockey would be like without fighting? Recently, there has been a lot of talk of banning fighting from the NHL. In Tuesday night’s game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal’s Parros fell face first in the middle of a fight and suffered a concussion. This has again started up talk about if the NHL should ban fighting. These people who want to ban fighting say that fighting leads to many injuries and it is unnecessary for players to fight. Many goons have been drafted into the NHL to serve one purpose, to fight and hit. The people against these goons want to eliminate them by eliminating fighting.

I totally disagree with these people and I think that fighting should not be banned from the game. It has been a part of the game since the creation and there is no need to take it out now. There have been some injuries from fighting, but the fighters know the risk they’re taking every time they “drop the gloves”. They don’t have to fight if they don’t want to, but if they want to, they should be able to. It is a good way for them to let off steam when they get angry instead of them skating around intentionally trying to hurt people. Fighting also can hold other players accountable for their actions. If a player does something bad, then a person on the opposing team is going to fight them. Should a player just let another player hurt a teammate.? The answer is no, you should stand up for your teammates and you can do that by fighting. This could act as a punishment for what the person did wrong. Finally, I think that fighting motivates players to play harder. If they’re playing bad, then a fight would motivate them to play better. When both teams are playing great, then it is going to be a great game. Would hockey be the same without any fighting?
